The legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, this shimmering island on the edge of the Mediterranean has drawn adventurers to its shores for centuries, from Alexander the Great to the Byzantines and most recently, vacationers who fall in love with the island and its warm, welcoming people.


Falling in Love with Cyprus


Nestled into the eastern part of Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. From independent travelers to honeymooners, archaeology enthusiasts to friends of nature, adventure lovers to people who enjoy lazy days on a beach, Cyprus certainly does not disappoint.

Also known as a country of resorts, Cyprus has plenty of places where you can partake in a variety of water sports. Head to the peninsulas and capes, where the wind is strongest for those who like windsurfing or sailing activity. There’s also at least one sea-diving site in each of the big resorts.

Mountain biking and hiking are two activities that can enjoyed in each part of the island. There are more than 200 kilometres of well-marked hiking trails on the island including a number of popular hiking routes such as those in the Troodos area, the Akamas Peninsula, the Aphrodite Trail, the Adonis Trail branch and the Avakas Gorge. Trails are signposted, giving all hikers information on the local flora, fauna and geology. In the summer, it may not be advisable to walk in high temperatures during the middle of the day.
Although hardly renowned for skiing, Cyprus does have a resort on the northeastern face of Mount Olympus. The snow trails on Mount Olympus are a fabulous way of spending a winter morning. You could ski in the morning and then be sunning yourself by the pool or on the beach in the afternoon. Snow falls are from mid-December through to the end of March courtesy of the infrequent winter storms that pass over the island.


For a golf fan there are several courses and the most popular are in the Paphos district. Warm summers and mild winters make Cyprus an ideal location for golfers at any time of the year.
Fishing is another activity you can arrange while you are in Cyprus. Spear-fishing (without aqualung) angling, fishing with vertical lines or trolling are the permitted methods for which no license is required. Apart of that, you must be alert to the fact that fishing regulations often change depending on environmental factors. Bird watching trip is other interesting activity that can be arrange during your trip as Cyprus has a bird list about 369 species. Cyprus is on a north-south migration route and there are many birds in transit, some in vast flocks and some in small clusters. Last but not least, horse riding can be enjoyed at special centres, professional training facilities that are equipped with instructors who provide lessons for beginners and advanced riders.

With so much variety in such a compact area, Cyprus certainly offers something to suit all tastes.
