Düsseldorf, a capital city and an economic hub of Germany, is a place to look out for. Strategically situated over the Rhine, Düsseldorf currently is home to more than ten thousand people! Not a big fan of shopping? Düsseldorf is a great place for arts and culture. Düsseldorf encompasses traditional, avant-garde and new age culture scenes, so art fans would be spoilt for choice here. Head on over to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (opera), and the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (theatre) to get a taste of fine arts in Dusseldorf. Most of the world’s state-of-the-art collections are held in these buildings.

Music plays a very big part in Düsseldorf life, from traditional opera to new age power metal bands, nightlife in the city is a memorable one. Do take time to visit a popular nightlife destination, Bolkerstraße, where one can meet people from all walks of life! If you are looking for something low key but still want to enjoy your night out, head to Ratinger Straße where most locals frequent.

Besides that, other notable spots in the city are Altstadt where half of the population of Düsseldorf lives. Altstadt has over 300 bars as well as the longest bar in the world! When in Altstadt make sure you visit the Basilica St. Lambertus; a favourite amongst locals and tourists. Soak in the post-modern part of the city by heading over to the Düsseldorf-Hafen harbour. The harbour is a popular lifestyle destination where the famous Monkey’s Island bar is located and where the largest cinemas in the city are found. There are several hotels situated around the area as well. To better associate yourself, the harbour is also known as the media hub for media centres such as radio stations. CNN has one of their headquarters in the area.

Worried about eating in Düsseldorf? Well the food here is certainly not for the faint-hearted. One of the popular local meals here consists of horsemeat that is pickled for a few days! However do not be disheartened because their desserts are even better. A Düsseldorf speciality called ‘Sky and Earth‘ is made out of black pudding mixed with mashed potatoes and apples. Doesn’t that sound tempting? While all that is being prepared, sip Düsseldorf famous drink Altbier which happens to be brewed locally.
